Softube Volume 1 Review

Softube_Volume1_jpg
In the closing quarter of 2016, world-renowned DSP vibemeisters, Softube, unveiled an absolute DAW-busting collection of vibe and koolness. This bounteous bundle comes to us under a rather unassuming name – “Softube Volume 1”.

Don’t let the bundle's deceptively simple name slip under your radar though. This pallet stack of effects and virtual instruments is a full load of tasty, characterful tools that will infuse any DAW project with analog-ish quality galore.
In a manner of speaking, there are 16 of Softube’s most coveted plug-ins crammed into this collection. The mix and producing gamut is amply covered with kit pieces dedicated to Compression, EQ, Limiting, Summing, Amp simulation, Reverb, Delay, Echo, Flanging and Doubling/Chorus.

If that weren’t enough, Softube’s “Heartbeat” is an innovative, virtual drum machine that can handle most nearly any beat-making situation imaginable. Last, but far from least, the deluxe, expandable synthesizer, aptly named, “Modular”, attends a dizzying spectrum of flexible synthesis.

Purchased separately, all the included accessories would set you back a little over $2000 (MSRP)! Thankfully, a perpetual (lifetime) license for this crate-load of plug-in glory can be had for a reasonable $499 (USD). Monthly and yearly subscriptions are also available - $20/month and $200/yearly respectively.

ValhallaDSP ValhallaRoom Review

ValhallaRoom Picture
Unless you’ve been comatose since 2009, when glimpses of ValhallaDSP were first seen on the DSP horizon, it is very probable that you’ve been aware of Valhalla Plug-ins. It approaches outright comedic lunacy to even contemplate comparing an independently-crafted $50 (USD) reverb plug-in with those costing upwards of FIVE times more.

Nevertheless, this true-stereo, cross-platform, algorithmic reverb plug-in deserves nothing less.

Why?

Sound quality.

The resultant reverberation quality heard on audio tracks having been processed with ValhallaRoom is nothing less that breath-taking. And don’t you know, the reverberation decay can be as long as 100

SoundMagic Neo Reverb Review

Neo Reverb
Neo Reverb:

Neo Reverb is a brilliantly unique approach to convolution reverb. Neo Reverb is an interesting marriage of algorithmic-like features joined to the natural space prowess typically dominated by convolution reverbs. It is, of sorts, a hybrid reverb plug-in. It is a novel take on the “static” convolution reverb and it does prove itself to be a very interesting concept.

PSP PianoVerb 2 Review

I’ve always really dug reverberation and ambience effects, kids. Even as a teeny bopper, I was always tempted to sing if I was in a (hopefully empty) public restroom, the school gymnasium, an empty community hall, under a highway overpass, and etcetera. If there was a natural ambient space that I could ‘listen’ to, I made noise. I would sing, shout, or clap. I was digging the ‘sound’; ya know? Do you suppose that Eddie Kramer or Mutt Lange ever did the same? I hope so – then I couldn’t be considered a spaz!

One of my absolute favorite types of naturally-occurring ambience is that which happens inside of an old upright-grand piano case. When I was an ankle-biter, I would squirm in behind the old 5ft’ tall, upright grand piano in our living room so I could sing - and make who knows what other awful squawks – ‘into’ the back of the piano. Sometimes I’d stand up on the bench so that I could open the top and yell/sing into it. (some would think I was ‘off-the-noodle’, but I didn’t care . . .)

When I first heard of PSP Audioware’s PianoVerb 2, my attention and interest was immediately all ‘jazzed-up’.
